A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire is the third in the Wicked series and it is fabulous. Gregory Maguire, as I have stated in the past, is one of my all time favorite authors. In his first two books, Maguire raised a lot of questions without providing too many answers. In a way, that’s nice…it leaves a lot of issues for the reader to think about, and many of those issues have to do with morality. In this book, however, Maguire fills in a lot of the blanks about Elphaba Thropp [the Wicked Witch of the West] through the stories of the Cowardly Lion and the mysterious Yackle. That being said, a lot is still a mystery, and the answers didn’t spoil any of the fun. And of course, Maguire couldn’t resist another cliffhanger-ish ending. That man loves loose ends. I thouroughly enjoyed this book, and had trouble putting it down once I started it. I was even tempted to read while driving! [Don’t worry, I didn’t]
I give this book a big 9 out of 10. It was most excellent. 😉
